Ingredients

  • 1 loaf French Bread
  • 1 cup Pizza sauce homemade or store bought
  • 2 cups Shredded Mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup Your favorite pizza toppings Josh used sausage, caramelized onions, and roasted red peppers this time.

Equipment

  • Baking Sheet
  • Oven
  • Chef's Knife

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees F. It’s important to start with a hot oven to ensure the bread crisps up nicely.
  2. Slice the French bread in half lengthwise. Place the halves on a large baking sheet, cut side up. You want to expose that soft interior for all the toppings.
  3. Spread the pizza sauce evenly over the bread. Make sure to cover every inch to keep the bread moist and flavorful.
  4. Generously top the sauce with Shredded Mozzarella cheese. The more cheese, the better—this will melt and create a beautiful layer.
  5. Add your favorite pizza toppings. Be creative! If you’re going traditional, think pepperoni, mushrooms, or bell peppers. Josh used caramelized onions and roasted red peppers, which gives a wonderful flavor.
  6. Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly. Keep an eye on it to avoid burning.
  7. Once done, remove from the oven and let it cool for a minute. Then slice into pieces or serve as is. You can even cut the French bread into quarters for a fun sharing experience.
  8. This dish is perfect for a pizza party! Invite your friends or family and let everyone customize their own pizza.

Notes

  • Tip 1: Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days. Reheat in the oven for the best results.
  • Tip 2: You can freeze your assembled pizzas before baking. Wrap them tightly in cling wrap, then foil. Bake from frozen, adding a few extra minutes to the cooking time.
  • Tip 3: Serve with a fresh salad or garlic bread to round out your meal. A light vinaigrette pairs beautifully with the richness of the pizza.
  • Tip 4: Try different types of bread like ciabatta or focaccia for a unique twist on this recipe.
  • Tip 5: For a gathering, simply double the ingredients and make multiple batches!
