Ingredients

  • 2 pie crusts Pie Crusts found in the refrigerator section of the grocery store
  • 1 egg Egg
  • 1.5 tablespoons Whole Milk
  • 0.75 cup Strawberry Jam
  • 1 tablespoon Cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon Cold Water
  • 1 cup Powdered Sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Water
  • 0.25 teaspoon Vanilla
  • 1 serving Multi-Colored Sprinkles

Equipment

  • Parchment Paper
  • Pizza Cutter

Method

  1. 1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F. This ensures that your pop tart will bake evenly and reach that perfect golden brown color.
  2. 2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. This will prevent your pop tart from sticking and make cleanup a breeze.
  3. 3. Roll out the pie crusts on a floured surface. Be sure to roll them out evenly to ensure a consistent texture.
  4. 4. Cut each sheet into a large square, about 12 inches. This will give you the base and top for your pop tart.
  5. 5. Using a fork or a toothpick, poke holes into one of the squares. This allows steam to escape during baking, preventing sogginess.
  6. 6. Place the square without holes on the parchment-lined baking sheet. This will be the bottom layer that holds all the delicious filling.
  7. 7. In a large bowl, combine the strawberry jam, cold water, and cornstarch. Microwave this mixture for 30 seconds, stirring frequently until smooth. You can also do this on the stovetop.
  8. 8. Once your filling is smooth, pour it over the square on the baking sheet. Be sure to leave a small border around the edges to seal the pop tart later.
  9. 9. For the egg wash, combine the egg and whole milk in a small bowl. Brush this mixture over the edges of the filling square.
  10. 10. Top with the second square of pie crust, gently pressing the edges together. This creates a seal so that the filling doesn’t ooze out while baking.
  11. 11. Trim and seal the edges using a pizza cutter or fork. This not only seals the filling but also gives a nice decorative finish.
  12. 12. Brush the top of the pop tart with the remaining egg wash for that golden sheen.
  13. 13. Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes or until the crust is pale golden brown. Keep an eye on it to avoid overbaking.
  14. 14. Once baked, remove from the oven and let it cool slightly before transferring to a wire rack.
  15. 15. In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, water, and vanilla. Drizzle this frosting over the warm pop tart and finish with multi-colored sprinkles.
  16. 16. Slice and serve your Giant Homemade Strawberry Pop Tart warm and enjoy!
