Ingredients
  

  • 1 pound ground lamb
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 medium onion finely chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 teaspoons dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried marjoram
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried rosemary
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 3 tablespoons bread crumbs
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 8 pieces pita breads
  • 1 cup tzatziki sauce
  • 1 medium tomato sliced
  • 1 small red onion thinly sliced
  • 1 cup lettuce chopped

Method
 

  1. In a large bowl, combine ground lamb, ground beef, chopped onion, minced garlic, dried oregano, dried marjoram, dried rosemary, ground cumin, kosher salt, paprika, bread crumbs, and black pepper. Mix thoroughly until well combined.
  2. Transfer the meat mixture into a loaf pan and press down to compact it.
  3. Bake in a preheated oven at 325°F for 60 minutes or until fully cooked.
  4. Remove from oven and let rest for 10 minutes.
  5. Slice the meat into thin strips.
  6. Warm the pita breads in the oven or on a skillet until slightly toasted.
  7. Spread tzatziki sauce on each pita.
  8. Add slices of gyro meat on top of the tzatziki, followed by tomato, red onion, and lettuce.
  9. Fold and serve immediately.

Notes

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days. The flavors will continue to meld, making the leftovers even better!
