  • 0.5 cups Warm water
  • 3 cups Vegetable oil
  • Powdered sugar

Method
 

  1. Start by whisking together 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour, 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder, and ½ teaspoon salt in a large mixing bowl.
  2. Next, cut in 1 ½ tablespoons shortening using a pastry blender or a fork until crumbly.
  3. Slowly pour in ½ cup warm water, stirring until a dough forms.
  4. Once the dough is formed, knead it gently for 2 to 3 minutes until smooth.
  5. Let the dough rest for 15 minutes covered with plastic wrap.
  6. Heat 3 cups vegetable oil in a heavy-bottomed skillet or Dutch oven to 350°F to 360°F.
  7. Roll the dough into a rectangle about 9 x 12 inches.
  8. Cut the dough into 12 squares or rectangles.
  9. Fry the dough in small batches for 1 to 2 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  10. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  11. Sprinkle with powdered sugar and drizzle with honey before serving.
